How it Works
Writing a book is hard. But not when you work with me. My process is simple, and I’ll do every last bit of the heavy lifting. All I ask is that you show up as your authentic self, ready to tell me your story. I’ll lead you through the journey every step of the way.
The Ghostwriting Process
Quality ghostwriting should never be one-size-fits-all. Every project I take on is thoughtfully tailored to your goals. Here’s the process that we’ll customize to fit your project’s needs.
Step Zero: The call
If you’re interested in working with me, we’ll schedule a free, no obligation call first to talk about your project. This will give you a chance to get to know me and decide whether I’m the right writer for your book, and it will allow me to share with you honestly whether I feel I can do your book justice. If I don’t think I’m the right writer for you, I’ll tell you. And if you don’t think I’m the right writer for you, you’ll move on (with a promise to send me a link to your book when it’s finished so I can buy it). Simple as that.
Step One: The road map
If we decide we’re a fit for each other, we’ll start by charting the course that we’ll follow for the rest of the project. I want to hear your story—what drives you, your vision for your life and career, and everything else that makes you the unique person whose name is going on the cover of this book.
Then, we’ll talk about the book itself. We’ll discuss your overall message, any thoughts you have on the book’s structure (no pressure—it’s totally okay if the answer is “none”), and what stories or concepts you want to make sure to include. I’ll have plenty of questions to ask as we walk through this part of the process—all you have to do is talk.
Step Two: The outline
Using everything you’ve shared with me, I’ll develop an outline for the book and present it to your approval. I’ll make sure you feel great about it before we lock it in and move on, and we can always adjust it later if we need to.
Step Three: The interviews
This is the most important step of the process—even more important than the writing itself. We’ll dive deep together on the specific ideas, concepts, and stories that will make up your book. We can do a marathon full day of interviews, or we can spread them out based on your schedule—the “how” is flexible. But the “why” is clear: this is the step in the process where your book truly becomes your book.
We’ll also do any other preparations we need to do before jumping into writing. If I’m doing any independent research or interviewing anyone else for your book, I’ll do that during this step.
Step Four: The writing
Otherwise known as “the fun part”: it’s time to get your book on paper. Using all the information from our interviews and any other content you’ve shared with me, I’ll craft a first draft of your manuscript, checking in with you early and often to make sure we’re headed in the right direction.
Step Five: The revisions
After you’ve read the entire manuscript, we’ll work through revisions together. You’ll share notes with me, and I’ll make changes. Sometimes we may schedule a revision call, or two, or more, and sometimes we’ll just work back and forth together in a shared document. Whatever we need to do to get your book to the finish line, we’ll do it.
Step Six: The celebration
Congratulations! You’re officially an author.
That’s it. You’ll be an integral part of the process and the chief decision-maker, because this is your book. And I’ll use my many years of writing experience to guide our journey together and help your book become the best it can be.
